What’s your morning routine? Do you listen to music as soon as you wake up? Getting ready? How about your playlist?
Did you know that the music you start your day off with can affect how you would feel for the rest of the day? That’s because what you feed your body mentally is just as important as what you feed your body physically.
In my recent episode, “Can TV Survive Without Hip Hop Music? There’s No Media Without Music,” I mentioned my experience on how music had a negative impact on my body because "we are what we eat (consume)". However, I was able to figure out the changes I needed to make in order to enjoy all kinds of music without it affecting my mood or day. Here's what you need to do:
Balance the music you consume - notice the type of day your having and allow yourself to select music based on your mood. Want to focus? Maybe try some classical music. Heading out to a party? Throw on some hip-hop.
There’s a time and place for everything - the old saying, never fails. Maybe as you’re going to bed you may not want to listen to songs that get you deep into your feelings and suddenly your mind is racing and you can’t go to bed. Try songs that make you happy or songs that put your mind back to ease.
Listen to your emotions - too much Summer Walker may not always be a good thing (but how can it not be?). If you notice yourself allowing certain lyrics to affect your wants and lifestyle, go back to the first point I made about balancing what you consume or maybe don't listen at all.
If you follow at least one of the things I mentioned, I promise you'll notice a shift in your mindset and how you go about your day. Remember that your mental health is just as important as your physical health.
